Wow, great work! You guys must really be in love with G3, you just go on and on and on...
Zitat von RoiDanton
We won't probably have the time for it.
Btw, you put in the word 'probably'.
You might not have noticed, but there is world of difference between:
"We won't have the time for it." (Wir werden dafür keine Zeit haben.)
and
"We won't probably have the time for it." (Wir werden wahrscheinlich keine Zeit dafür haben.)
same problem, but I may be due to the old dual-core. mine is also 1.8, and that's starting to be very old, + do you have win7 x64 or x86 ?
x86, on both windows 7 and xp.
Usually hardware components should be fine for atleast 5 years.
Risen has same performance on w7 as it had on xp, but G3 lags even with all on low although it didn't do that on xp.
I had problems earlier with the processor, but was dumb enough to not check for dust. It appeared the fan to th processor had large clumps of dust (making it rotate much slower).
The difference were quite obvious, but especially on H.264 720p format,
(used in mkv) there was a huge difference. It went from lagging to using 30% of processor capacity.
Anyways, when I played it has this periodical lag. About every second or less, 1 frame seems to take extra long time, and the period between those seems to be quite steady.
In contrast, the monestary in Risen (on my standard graphic settings) has a low fps here, but it's very steady. Every frame has fairly equal time periods between each other.
In G3 it's more like ok fps, but interrupted by frames that take longer time to calculate (freezes). Encountered this on xp also on higher settings, but on w7 it's on lowest, and occurs usually more than once every second.

I think the bottleneck with those freezes from time to time is not the video card but how the game reads the data from the disk.
I really wish comunity team to release a FINAL PATCH for Gothic 3.
I don't want to play Gothic 3 a 1 milion times, I want to play it one-two times and experience the best of Gothic 3.
So please don't hurry fix all the bugs you can and make this the FINAL PATCH
for Gothic 3.
And I hope you will not release a hotfix after you release the patch.
I want to install the patch and play Gothic 3 at its best, simple as that.

That might be a possibility. I also encountered the same in G2.
Another thing. They've usually been periodical, with fairly steady time intervals. Often many calculations are not done every frame, like checking objects locations to each other.
If they push alot/all of these extra calculations to 1 frame, rather than spreading it out, then this could cause the short freezes we see.
I would think, if it was writing from disc, it would not have that steady frequency of short freezes.
When you teleport is an example of disc read, as here you must upload new info to ram, which will drop fps to near zero while it loads new area.
Unfortunately, we have to cancel the release today. Another bug occured mentioned by one of our testers. This bug is new and we don't know where and why it happens.
And not, we don't release the patch with this bug.
It seems to be our destiny that we always get a problem which was never calculated and we always have to delay.

We are not happy about the current situation.
Don't worry guys. Take all the time you need. It's better that we get a patch that only fixes bugs and makes improvements not one causing bugs.
i also have prossesor 1.80GHz 4GB of ram and video card: Geforce 260 GTX 896 memory and i run gothic 3 on max resolution and grapchics going smooth. only when walking lags a sec to unlock new land but that's fine, right?
i agree with "Kilrha" in 100% that you guys take all the time you need to make it last patch with everything is fixed all bugs are known to you such as this new "torch" and fix it don't rush because i think no one pushing you so take the time relax and think carefuly.
We have decided to release the patch. There is only a full version.
The patch can be installed on all g3 versions and is available for all languages. It's only for original G3 game, not for Forsaken Gods.
The CP 1.74 contains all previous patches. So you need only this patch to update Gothic 3.
1.7x savegames are compatible with CP 1.74. Older savegames (1.60 or earlier) are not compatible.
Choose only the option "Activate ATI/AMD workaround for shadow problems" at the end of the installation if you have a 4xxx/5xxx ATI card. This workaround can be activate/deactivate in the ge3.ini
If you have installed modifications then save it before installing the patch. The patch will delete all superfluously files during the installation. We can't guarantee that all modifications will work with the CP 1.74.
If you have installed the quest pack then you should install it again after the 1.74 installation. The current quest pack version will has some minor issues because of missing stringtable entries (English quest pack version is in progress and follow soon).
Unfortunately, no.
We couldn't solve the bug/problem.
There is a minor bug (light/shadows) with torches with activated ATI workaround. Normally it's ATi business.
We still try to find a solution to solve the problem. But it would take much time and a new project is nearly there. But we still have the problem on our list.

Choosing to activate the workaround if you have nvidia can cause problems or there's simply no benefit?
